The first thing one must do when training your pet is to be patient, kind, loving and never cruel. Be willing to do the task 100 times or more, because repetition is the best teacher. Some dogs are smarter than others and have a larger vocabulary. Do some research and ask your friends, vet and your groomer what they would do.

How to Teach Your Dog to go to the Bathroom outside.
1. Purchase a cage large enough for your animal to be comfortable. Dogs will never go to the bathroom in their beds unless you leave them there too long or you feed them in their cages. Never feed your dog in its cage, when doing this type of trainning. If your dog goes to the bathroom in the house put him in the cage for a short while and say "Bad dog." You don't have to yell at them because, When they understand they did something wrong they will feel bad and often they will automatically go into their cage. When your going to let them out of the cage make sure to take your dog directly outside and tell him to go pee. If they don't go pee at that point bring them back in and don't put him back in the cage unless he attempts to go to the batheroom in the house. Teach him to speak and or go to the door when he has to go to the bathroom. Don't stop the trainning until you feel it's sucessful. This trainned Sparky at age 10. If he can be trainned then any dog can.
2. You can also use a leash to train your dog. I did both. Put your dog on a leash and keep him at your side as much as you can. When your dog has to go pee he will try to pee even when standing by you and that's when you take your dog outside. Ask him if he has to go pee and then say "Speak." (If your dog can't speak see How to teach your dog to speak) As you walk to the door, then say, "go to the door." If you do this enough times he will begin to understand what he needs to do. I tell Sparky when he gets to the door to speak. He gets so excited when he knows we both are communicating.

How to teach your dog to Speak
1. The best thing that I found was to take Sparky to visit a dog that can already speak and when the owner says speak to their dog and your dog sees and hears this they will copy it. This is how you use other dogs to model good behavior for your dog. It helps to give your dog a treat when they speak. This doesn't happen overnight, and you may have to repeat - how many times _______ ? You do the math. Please don't forget that some dogs need more repetition than others and you don't have to yell or hit your dog. I'm not a dog expert, but this worked for Sparky.
